But I believe this time...Dear Deborah, you write..

But I believe this time there is a substantial chance that the bashing of public schooling and teachers will succeed in destroying public education in favor of a helter-skelter totally unaccountable privately-owned and publicly funded system of highly segregated schooling—segregated by race, ethnicity and social class.

i've only been in ed 20 years.. and i too believe this time is different. i think we are at a tipping or turning point. but i believe we are headed for the leveling out we all deeply and/or secretly crave. i'm even thinking it will have the appearances of unaccountable helter-skelter. but i don't think it will be because of a vengeful rebellion or an act of laziness, or whatever, but rather because of a democratizing of players. i believe the accountability piece is disruptively growing from within the learners/people. this individualized ownership may keep us on edge for a couple years, because of its messiness, but in the long run, and at the end of the day, that very ownership is what will create communities/individuals that not only sustain, but thrive.

thank you for all you do for ed Deborah. a big piece of this is boldness, and you model that for others so gracefully.monika hardyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17903730727359304285noreply@blogger.com
